Rhinoplasty is one of the most sought-after—and at the same time most complex—procedures in facial aesthetic and functional surgery. It is not simply about “reshaping the nose,” but about restoring harmony and, in many cases, proper breathing.
We have gathered some of the most frequently asked questions to explore the key aspects of this procedure with Dr. Enrico Foresta, the clinic’s plastic and aesthetic surgeon.
1. What does it mean to address both the functional and aesthetic aspects of the nose?
Addressing both the functional and aesthetic aspects of the nose means working simultaneously on two inseparable dimensions: form and function.
Rhinoplasty does not pursue an aesthetic goal alone—such as improving facial proportions and harmony—but also a functional one, as it often involves correcting breathing issues caused by a deviated nasal septum or alterations of the internal nasal structures.
Today, there is increasing emphasis on integrated functional and aesthetic rhinoplasty, an approach that makes it possible to achieve a nose that is beautiful, natural-looking, and able to breathe properly.
2. How important is it to undergo the procedure in a clinic with a dedicated team of specialists?
It is essential. Rhinoplasty is a complex procedure that requires highly specialized expertise in plastic and maxillofacial surgery, as well as the support of a multidisciplinary team: anesthesiologists, ENT specialists, specialized nursing staff, and a well-trained operating room team.
Only a dedicated and properly equipped facility can ensure safety, precision, and continuity throughout the pre- and post-operative journey. Collaboration among specialists also allows for optimal management of any critical issues and enables the procedure to be tailored to each individual patient.
3. Many patients come in with aesthetic expectations but also with concerns: what are your three key pieces of advice for those considering rhinoplasty?
The first piece of advice is to maintain realistic expectations: rhinoplasty should not radically change the face, but rather enhance its natural harmony.
The second is to choose your surgeon carefully, evaluating their specific expertise, clinical cases, and communication approach.
The third is to trust the process and be patient: the final result stabilizes over several months, and the healing phase requires care, time, and confidence in the post-operative path.
4. In today’s doctor–patient communication, how important is the concept of “facial harmony” compared to the idea of purely aesthetic “reshaping”?
It is extremely important. Modern rhinoplasty no longer aims for a “perfect” nose, but for a harmonious one—one that is consistent with the patient’s individual facial features.
Today, facial aesthetic surgery is guided by the principle of personalization: every face has its own proportions, and the surgeon’s role is to respect them, not to impose standardized models.
Speaking in terms of harmony helps patients understand that a successful procedure is not defined by a noticeable transformation, but by the naturalness of the result.
