make sense campaign

Articolo del 15/12/2025

From today until September 20, 2025, the Make Sense Campaign returns—a European initiative dedicated to the prevention and early diagnosis of head and neck cancers. Ars Medica Clinic is proud to participate in the campaign through AIOCC – Italian Association of Head and Neck Oncology, with the goal of raising awareness, providing information, and promoting health.

On Friday, September 19, from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and Saturday, September 20, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, free screenings will be available, including a complimentary consultation with Professor Giovanni Almadori.

A common but little-known cancer

Head and neck cancers are the seventh most common type of cancer in Europe. In Italy alone, nearly 10,000 new cases are diagnosed each year, often with serious consequences if the disease is not detected early.

These cancers more frequently affect men, especially those over 40, but diagnoses among younger individuals have been increasing in recent years. Major risk factors include alcohol, tobacco, and human papillomavirus (HPV).

The “1in3” motto: recognizing the warning signs

One of the main challenges is that early symptoms can seem minor and are easily mistaken for seasonal ailments. For this reason, the campaign has adopted the motto “1in3”:

If even one of these symptoms persists for three weeks, it is important to consult a doctor:

  • Tongue pain, ulcers that do not heal, or red/white patches in the mouth

  • Sore throat

  • Persistent hoarseness

  • Difficulty or pain when swallowing

  • Swelling in the neck

  • Nasal blockage on one side or nosebleeds

Early diagnosis can make a significant difference, increasing the chances of recovery to 80–90%.

A European commitment to prevention

The campaign, promoted by the European Head & Neck Society (EHNS) and supported in Italy by AIOCC, aims to address the widespread lack of awareness about these cancers. According to surveys, the majority of people still do not recognize the symptoms or know the proper prevention strategies.

Make Sense Campaign 2025 is an opportunity to unite doctors, institutions, and citizens in a common fight: for health and early diagnosis.

Talking to your doctor, paying attention to your body’s signals, and not ignoring symptoms are the first steps to protecting your life.
